FCT Police Command Takes Over Bolt Driver’s Assault Case Involving Federal Lawmaker
The FCT Police Command has taken over an assault case involving Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya and federal lawmaker Alex Mascot Ikwechegh. According to the police, the incident, reported by the driver at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters, occurred on October 27 in Abuja. The Nigeria Police Force has since urged Nigerians, including lawmakers, not to misuse the Inspector General of Police’s name to intimidate others, stressing the IGP’s commitment to impartiality.
In a widely circulated video, Ikwechegh, representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency, was seen slapping the driver during a dispute over a delivery payment. The lawmaker allegedly ordered snails from a vendor who had engaged the Bolt driver for delivery, and the confrontation escalated at the lawmaker’s residence. When informed that the incident had been recorded, Ikwechegh reportedly responded by identifying himself and invoking the IGP’s authority.
While neither Ikwechegh nor the House of Representatives has commented on the incident, many Nigerians have called for justice
