Nigeria and China Strengthen Ties with Strategic Partnership Agreement Signed by President Tinubu
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s partnership with China, aiming to move beyond commerce to mutually beneficial development initiatives. This pledge was made during a meeting in Abuja with representatives from China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Joseph Tegbe, the newly appointed Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, emphasized the importance of collaboration in critical areas such as infrastructure, energy, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, education, and technology.
Tegbe highlighted Nigeria’s objective to foster industrial cooperation and knowledge exchange with China. He noted the need for effective communication between the two nations to achieve shared development goals. The Chinese delegation, led by Zhang Huanteng, presented the official Memorandum of Understanding, marking progress on the agreements reached during a September meeting between the leaders of both countries. Huanteng extended an invitation to Nigerian officials for further discussions in Beijing to detail the partnership’s next steps.
Senator Atiku Bagudu, Nigeria’s Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, expressed gratitude for China’s hospitality during the Nigerian delegation’s recent visit. He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative and assured that Tegbe’s appointment reflects President Tinubu’s dedication to strengthening ties with China.
The Federal Government looks forward to advancing the agreements and establishing timelines to bring each initiative to fruition, fostering a greater, mutually beneficial relationship with China.
