
Professor Bernard Odoh Appointed 7th Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University
The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has appointed Professor Benard Ifeanyi Odoh as the 7th substantive Vice Chancellor.
Announced by Pro-Chancellor Amb. Greg Mbadiwe, Odoh, a Professor of Geophysics, was selected from 18 candidates after a rigorous interview process. His five-year term begins from the day of appointment being , October 29, 2024.
In his acceptance speech, Odoh expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to improve the university, emphasizing his commitment to performance over hearsay.
He is the first alumnus of UNIZIK to hold this position and aims to address the university’s challenges effectively
Meanwhile, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, staged a peaceful protest against the recent appointment of Professor Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh as the new Vice Chancellor.
The protest arose from concerns over the selection process, with ASUU branch chairman, Prof. Kingsley Oborji, appealing to President Bola Tinubu for intervention to prevent instability at the university.
Protesters carried placards demanding respect for due process and accountability.
Despite the unrest, the university’s governing council proceeded with Odoh’s appointment, citing his extensive academic and administrative experience
