South Korean President Accused of Violating Constitution
Prosecutors in South Korea have accused President Yoon Suk Yeol of extensively violating the constitution after declaring martial law, allegedly to avoid criminal investigations linked to himself and his family.
An impeachment motion filed by opposition parties claims Yoon’s actions were unconstitutional, including deploying military and police forces to block the National Assembly, detaining lawmakers, and restricting parliamentary access.
The motion describes these actions as a breach of the separation of powers and a violation of parliamentary rights, further alleging they obstructed lawmakers from lifting martial law.
Thousands of citizens protested against the controversial move, forcing President Yoon to rescind the martial law order after a parliamentary vote overturned it
