South Korean President Faces Arrest Warrant Amid Political Turmoil
A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol, marking the first time a sitting president faces such action. Yoon is charged with abuse of authority and leading a rebellion after declaring martial law on December 3, which triggered political chaos.
Stripped of his powers after impeachment, Yoon defied summonses for questioning. Allegations include ordering troops to storm parliament during lawmakers’ attempts to block martial law. Evidence of plans to detain opposition figures has also surfaced.
The case adds to South Korea’s political uncertainty as the Constitutional Court deliberates on Yoon’s impeachment, a process that could last six months. Meanwhile, Acting President Choi Sang-mok assumes leadership amid mounting challenges
