The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control warns against fake Phesgo, drug used in the treatment of breast Cancer

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has warned healthcare providers and the public about counterfeit Phesgo, a drug used for the treatment of Cancer.

This suspected counterfeit bears the batch number C5290S20.

Roche, the Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH), acted swiftly after a doctor from Lagos University Teaching Hospital reported concerns about the product.

They investigated the complaint to ensure patient safety and product integrity, and the investigation revealed discrepancies such as a non-existent batch number in Roche’s database, incorrect associated language, missing Basilisk, incorrect production date, and tamper evidence labels that did not match genuine Roche materials.

The illegal marketing of counterfeit medicines poses serious health risks, undermining the safety, quality, and effectiveness of these products.

NAFDAC, therefore, warned importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and caregivers to exercise caution and vigilance to prevent counterfeit products within the supply chain.

It advised Healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicions of substandard or falsified medicines or medical devices directly to the nearest NAFDAC office.
